Someone close to the individual may have succumbed to a particular illness or issue so the person uses his/her skills in raising awareness by running, cycling or whatever to raise awareness.
my guess would be because running is very popular and almost everyone can do it at some level. it’s also easy and requires really no special skill to run/walk 5k. think about a bunch of inexperienced people playing basketball or football. also, it shows sacrifice-if you are willing to put time and energy into training people will be willing to donate
A 5K or 10K race is a great morning out, promotes a healthy lifestyle, and is a great place for businesses to make a community presence. Some of the more famous runs, like the Komen Race for the Cure, draw thousands of runners and are held worldwide. It’s a sport that anyone (with enough practice) can be fairly good at, and one in which you compete only against yourself and the clock. You can take it as seriously as you want.
They do it because running long distances is the most pain ull ever face. In other sports you go out thinking you might get hurt in running you are thinking about how long you can take the pain. So its basically like taking away some of the pain from the people they are trying to raise awareness about.
Largely because pretty much everyone can participate in a 5K run/walk event.
Other popular fundraisers, such as golf, limit participation to those who play thet particular sport and have the proper equipment.
