I’m currently involve in a fund raising campaign for a six year old girl who needs open heart surgery. Can anyone tell other ways for this fund raising activities aside from posting to blogs and contacting media?
Write to the Shriners, the Masons, the local Kiwanis, Corporate America, etc. Think big.
Bake sales and car washes? Are these people kidding? You need to raise $300,000 not $300. You are paying for a surgical procedure not little league uniforms.

community yard sales, street fairs, bake sales, golf games, poker runs

Pot Luck kind of a dinner in her honor all proceeds go toward her medical bills -
One of those coin containers in local stores.
Car Wash - in her honor -
Wrapping paper - candy type sales -

You can partner with shops and have them contribute parts of their earnings to charity in return for word of mouth referrals.
The magazine site is currently doing this.
