Wait…are you trying to self-publish? Because a literary agent and/or publisher will never ask you for money (Just making sure you’re not being scammed)…
Well. Graham Taylor, author of the Shadowmancer books, sold his motorcycle in order to get the money to self-publish his books for distribution. Is there anything of value that you’re willing to sacrifice for the sake of your book?
What do you mean, you need funding to get it “sampled”? I’ve never heard of that.
To get a book published by a reputable publishing house, you either submit directly to the house or you submit to a literary agent who then submits for you. A publishing house will not charge you to read your book. If they read it and like it, THEY pay YOU. A literary agent likewise will not charge you to read your book or to submit it to the appropriate publishers. You will sign a contract with the agent that says when the book sells, the agent gets a percentage of your royalties every time you get a check from the publisher.
You’re evidently planning to publish your book through some other route. Could you give us more details?
