Does any body have first hand knowledge of fund raising? Is it usual to spend more money in promotion than collecting the donations; should a small charity be spending moment on promotion in the hope of getting more back in donation?
Would any one be involved with a small private charity which is family run? If not, why not?

Looking at putting the “Fun” back into “Fund-raising” … as I am doing this on a regional, national and International basis and running out of ideas!! My boyfriend agreed to participate in a fund raising bike ride in September. The minimum commitment is to raise $1000. He has done the ride in previous years and raised $3000 for this charity. When he signed an agreement to participate and raise the funds, it stated that in the event he does not participate or doesn’t raise the minimum, his credit card will be charged. Because of a job commitment, he will be unable to participate in the ride this year. Does the charity really have any legal recourse if my boyfriend disputes the charge with his credit card company? I can’t believe that a charity is being this hard nosed about it. He signed an agreement, is that the same as a legal contract?
